Is this a safe plastic wrap to surface photo?
I want a "frame" a lot of pictures and just hope the place in mats before hanging on the wall. I need to know if wrapping each in plastic wrap first is safe for surface photo. Perhaps there is another type of transparent material safe (acid free?) To protect them? Otherwise, I suppose I could have many pieces of glass cut to cover (for maybe 30 pictures, so that the 60 pieces!), then attach special fasteners at each frame. These are important family photos (Non-digital, printed from old slides and / or negs missing), and I am very concerned about the ruin. Unfortunately, I very little extra $ $ for this project.
First, before doing anything else or matte analyzes all these pictures on your computer at high resolution to have a backup in case the damaged. you can also do color correction and fix the damaged areas once they are digitized. Second, you can get sheets of acetic acid free clear as those used for scrapbooking. these can be placed on the pictures and attached to the back of the matte with the window cut into it. but as someone else said that you do want anything to be located just above the picture because it may cause discoloration or deterioration over time. However, with only a matte your photo is still going to open items. the best thing - if you do not want to make frames in glass or plexi - is a double mat. that is, you have one mat as the base where you send a picture with photo corners, a cache seconds over this with a window cut a little larger than the photo itself. It on the second mat that you place the acetate, leaving you a little space between the acetate and the actual photo. then a third would go on all mat with a window cut to the size of the photo. it's a longer process, but probably much cheaper than frames for everything. and remember that you can buy matte board into chunks that you can put multiple photos on one piece.
