Paint Make

Does a second coat of paint make the color appear 'darker' or just more true to the color you want?

Painting a bedroom and primed the walls, painted a first coat and the color looks exactly the way I want. But I want to do a second coat because I have the paint and because I think the quality of the 'paint job' will look that much better with a second coat. But I don't want to have the color appear darker...will that happen with a second coat?

Scott ~ Seems to me that it would depend on the color you are painting and the color you are painting over. For instance, if you are painting white over a dark background, a second coat will actually make the wall lighter. If you are painting a dark coat over a light background, the reverse will occur...... the second layer will be darker. And as someone else suggested, it will be more even and saturated.
