How can I safely delete a buffer tank of my motorcycle?
Its one of those scratch-resistant sticky pads that go before tank. Its stuck with a funny little opaque bubble near the bottom - seems corny. How can I remove it without damage to paint beautiful metal. And are there any good advice on getting them to stick perfectly to the future?
Just had to go through this time a buddy screwed up and put one on cockeyed. You will need a heat gun or hair dryer, cloths of good quality clean, and cleaning solvent (I used Goof Off). Start with using the heat gun to heat the pad. Be careful not to overdo it because it is a tank of gas, after all, and some heat guns can get very hot. Also, try not to touch it once is clean, that your fingerprints can be a little greasy. As for putting a new one, the key is to start at one end and slowly peel the support as you go. Make sure you stamp on the tank from one end to another, pushing the point where the eastern and central support to the edges to release the bubbles as you go, rather than dealing with them at the end. The hardest part is it's tail and nice place. I put a piece masking tape just above and just below where the buffer was being marked and the center line with a pencil on the tape. This is actually pretty easy if you're careful and thoughtful about this.
