Let me point out that all the "where is the airplane wreckage" nonsense forgets that after the crash, TWO WHOLE BLOODY BUILDINGS went down on top of them, in intense heat much less. Is it any surprise that they had trouble sorting out the pieces? And the Pentagon one... did Mr Know it all forget that it's a HARDENED building? Ghandi, physics wise, the greatest threat to steel is not explosives, it's heat. In the example given above with regards to Chobham, a Molotov effect hot bolt of lead might eat through it, a high ex round will just leave a big dent. It's rock or concrete that's vulnerable to the "shock" effect of an explosion, stone tends to fracture and crumble when hit with explosive shock. So fire will actually have a much greater effect than explosives, especially if you consider that steel can "flex" to rob the shock of a lot of energy.
